Setting achievable goals.

With the start of a new year many people are setting goals. These goals may come in the form of “New Year Resolutions” or they may spring from a desire for change. Not matter your reason, goals are a great thing to have. They challenge us, encourage us, and give us something to aim for. But goals aren’t any good if they aren’t achievable. Goals need to be realistic, thought out, and broken into milestones.

Achievable doesn’t mean easy.

Goals should never be easy. They should require hard work, lots of effort, and dedication. Good goal setting will cause you to feel something upon completion. You should be able to take pride in your accomplishments and feel good about yourself.

Achievable means doable.

An impossible goal will only leave you frustrated. Keep yourself grounded when setting goals. Have realistic expectations and set achievable milestones along the way. Completing milestones will give you encouragement and help revitalize you for the next stretch.

Don’t try to be a hero.

Don’t go it alone. Set a goal with a friend, coach, or mentor. Have a support structure in place. Subscribe to encouraging social feeds, read blog articles, and listen to podcasts. Do what you need to, to make you goals a reality. Be your own success story.
